George Pratt - No Man's Land study - Trenchcoat

I was surprised to learn that H.G. Wells came up with the moniker "The War to End All Wars", an idealistic slogan at best. Certainly, to those that fought and died the sardonic line is one that lost its salt. Looking at this is very emotional for me, I had relatives that were lost and that lost others.

Somehow, during his work to prepare for his Enemy Ace project, George Pratt took some time to get measure and metre, and amazingly was able to take a bare, unshaded look at this event and bring out truth and the human condition it is buried in.

With just a few brushstrokes of watercolor he was able to cut through the 'romance' of war and expose it for what it is. Looking at it, you can see, feel, hear, smell and touch things that have long since faded...
