DescriptionAcrylic - 22" x 15" Published cover illustration for I Travel by Night by Robert McCammon (Subterranean Press, 2013). From the author of horror classics Boy’s Life and Gone South, comes a tale of Trevor Lawson, an undead gunslinger who wanders the late 19th century West in search of redemption. His calling card reads only, “I travel by night,” hinting at his true nature. Michael Whelan is no stranger to painting a gunslinger, and this cover assignment offered an opportunity to mix traditional elements of the post Civil War west with a twist of Southern Gothic intrigue. Note the subtle details on the cover from the Old West facade to the hazy gaslit streets to the cobble-paved walkway. Social/Sharing |
