Description
Julie Doucet was honored with a big show this year at the Angouleme Comic Art festival in France this year after winning the most prestigious award in comics the year before. Although Canadian, I was sadly naive of her work before she won the award a year ago. I have spent a year catching up and had read several of the collected works that have been published. I was a big fan walking into the Angouleme exhibition and was still blown away with the art(no pun intended). The quality of the ink and line work doesn't translate into the published pieces and the insight I gained into her work and publishing from the show added many new levels of appreciation. Julie's work is not easy to find. A rare page comes up for auction there are the occasional pages made available at French galleries. I picked this piece up from friend and art dealer Scott Eder at Lake Como this weekend. It had no intention of bringing any more art howme with me than the 3 Pratt pieces I was picking up but this one and two smaller pieces managed to contravene my plan.

Fantastic! I've been a fan of Julie's work for a long time. Great acquisition, Jeff.

I don't know if I'd need a page with cats wacking each each other off, but her ability to balance stark blacks and white is astounding.

That is good that you are now distinguishing between "Want" and "need"!

Well, in all fairness, NONE of this stuff is really a NEED.....😉
