Hernan El Corsario, December 1936. The premiere episode of Jose Luis Salinas' masterpiece strip. Salinas was already a master of his craft at this early stage of the art form. It's tempting to imagine what he could have done with a full Sunday page had he been in the US and backed by a newspaper syndicate. His work was detailed yet without the stiffness of Foster's Prince Valiant. It expressed movement more realistically than Raymond's Flash Gordon. Given the opportunity, he could have been a heavyweight in the American papers of the golden age.
