Description
Interesting to note that this adaption was scripted by Chris Claremont.

This particular page was of interest to me mainly because it portrays the conclusion of one of the signature plot points in the original novel: the famous confrontation between a Martian Tripod and the British battleship (referred to as a 'ram' in the book) H.M.S. THUNDERCHILDE.

(To my knowledge, no British Warship has ever been given that moniker)

I find the art for this page on the indifferent side - a splash page used for a mere 'large explosion' without any other particular discernible detail - and is a bit of a wasted storytelling opportunity. Any page which makes about as much narrative sense upside-down probably requires a re-think. Look at the art again, and prove me wrong.

I picked up the back issue in hopes the preceding pages might be more fun, but...::eh:: not so much. Still, should either of the preceding pages show up, I'd probably be interested in matching them with this page.

It's a splash to convey the power of the explosion, mark a victory for mankind at a sacrifice, and to provide a bookmark to the story as it still has 19 pages to go.  I would guess it was important to give the art team a way to catch up to the schedule too being a 52 page assignment.
