DescriptionLloyd LlewellynEightball Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron Pussey! Ghost World David Boring Ice Haven Wilson Mr. Wonderful The Death-Ray Patience and now Monica What can you say about Clowes? Pencil for pencil, to me he is the greatest and most consistent comic artist currently at work. I am incredibly pleased to have acquired this early page from Eightball 1 which was collected in Dan Pussey!: The Complete Saga of Young Dan Pussey, a savage caricature of the comics industry - begun when Clowes was only 28. So seeringly bleak for one so young! But also so funny and on point (look away Art Spiegelman from the fairly vicious satire character of Gummo Bumbleman). Social/Sharing |

Congratulations, Doug. You're on a real roll lately.
Thanks! I have been refocusing my collecting from 1980's alternative to earlier undergound. And you, grabbing those great Chester Square pages! That storyline is one I appreciate more as time passes.

Significant and highly acclaimed first issue! Clowes' comes in like a whirlwind to bring a new age of quality comics by taming the format to bring fresh ideas of what comics medium can achieve.

Fantastic page. Any Pussey page is a one-and-done-Clowes in my book but to scoop a page from the first appearance, from the first Eightball, and with the exaggerated serif lettering is in a league of its own. And never mind how Art Spiegleman might feel; what I want to know is if the real-life inspiration behind Dr Infinity ever read the comic. I could never look at him in the same light ever again. I might be in a minority but I kinda like the way the paper has gained a creamy tone; pages like this age like fine wine. Congrats and thanks for sharing this priceless page.
