Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez "Star Raiders" painted page

When I first met Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez 41 years ago at the 1983 Chicago Comic-Con, he put up with this 14 year-old’s many questions and very kindly spent a fair amount of time talking with me. One of the things he showed me was the painted art for the “Star Raiders” graphic novel, DC’s first. I never forgot his kindness nor the beautiful Star Raiders pages. Skip ahead a few decades and I’ve been fortunate to get to know Jose through the many cons we’ve both been guests at. I’ve bought several originals from him, but in March, when we were both guests at the Lexington Comic-Con, he brought with him four pages of Star Raiders he’d saved for himself all these years. Two had already been snapped up, but I, with the assistance of his pal, Fred Chamberlain, who helps out Jose at cons, was able to make the deal to get this really nice one. Thanks, Jose and Fred, for allowing me own this beautiful page, a piece of my childhood from a very memorable day. Some of it was painted with very-fadable Dr. Martin’s dyes, so I can’t frame and display it, so it will live in the dark in my flatfile, but I’ll pull it out for guests when the sun isn’t shining into my studio.
