DescriptionAbsolutely no one can deliver explosive moments like George Perez and this is a fine example of that statement. Perez deftly takes 13 heroes and effortlessly plays with movement, shape and detail to create a sensation in the observer where they can feel the crunch of the rubble, the wind of Quicksilver running by and the crackle (Kirby) of Wonder Man’s ionic energy. The fun details of the top panel plays to Perez’s strength in composition; Spider-Man using Giant Man as a platform, Cap hurdling over a boulder, Mjonir (check out the detail on the grip) making a direct-course to Thor’s waiting hand while The New Warriors reunite again in the upper right hand corner. Perez refuses to not waste an inch to the viewers benefit. The Exemplars below charge to meet The Avengers head on. George Perez has always loved Jack Kirby (who doesn’t?) and it show with these forgotten antagonists. These villains would be just as home in any Kirby Fourth World book as they are in this Marvel comic. Without even knowing who they are you can be sure that they are more than a match for our heroes above due to Perez’s costume flourish's and also the emotion that he brings to these combatant's faces as they do not hesitate to rush into the thick of it. Overall this one page makes you feel like you are watching the best live-action movie of all time and you forgot to bring the popcorn. Social/Sharing |

Incredible George Perez goodness right here! He loved cramming a lot of characters in one page, and it always looked amazing! Plus, it has Cap on it, so how bad can it be?? Congratulations on a beautiful piece!!

Hot damn is this fantastic! As you noted, the placement of Spidey and Cap in the tableau is particularly clever, and really sets this apart from many other 'burst of Heroes' depictions.

The last numbered milestone issue Perez reached on Avengers and of course he would leave his all like he does in every issue. It's double sized which allowed more freedom to do his thing, which is to bring the spectacular!

Here you go:
Dear Coollines Art,
Little Stevie didn't know what he was doing when he traded you the cover of FF4 for this "Avengers" page missing the Hulk. He had had a bad day at work and wasn't in the right state of mind. Please undo the deal.

OMG! What a breathtaking Avengers page from the great George Perez! The energy Perez put into this page is explosive! You can almost feel the ferocity of the two teams as they attack one another with full force! I love the way Perez handled the massive number of heroes and villains on this page--It seems almost effortless on his part, but clearly every inch of the page has been carefully mapped out! Love the figure of Spider-Man vaulting past Giant-Man's leg and Iron Man flying at near warp speed. Great images of Cap and Nova and Quicksilver! Every character is precdisely rendered by the amazing Mr. Perez! Fantastic page with more action than an NFL Sunday Night Football game!

I was going to count the characters but decided it would take too long! Perfect Perez example from the awesome Heroes Return Avengers run - the gang's all here! Congrats!
