DescriptionIt's been a relatively quiet year for me art-wise (so far!), but also a meaningful one.As a kid, I was a comic book reader, but also a reader reader. So when the Wolverine Saga was published, it was right up my alley. The Wolverine Saga consisted of 4 volumes, each with original art on the front and back cover, but with interiors full of words. That's right, words, not comics. It was the history of Wolverine thus far (from the 70s until the late 80s when this came out). On the side of the words were small snippets of art reprinted from all the different Wolverine and X-Men stories over the years. Nine year old me read volume 1 again and again and again. Little did I know at the time, but the art for both the front and back were done by a comics newcomer by the name of Rob Liefeld (and superstar Terry Austin). This year, with the help of some friends, I was able to track down and buy the front and back cover of The Wolverine Saga issue 1. It's on my wall in a huge frame and every time I look at it, I get the nostalgic shivers. When I mentioned to Rob that I had this early Wolverine art of his, he told me that it was the second time he'd drawn Wolverine and that the first time was for the back cover of Wolverine issue 8. Lucky for me, that's on my wall too 😉 P.S. If anyone knows where the oa for the cover of The Wolverine Saga 2 is, I'll pay a very nice finders fee if I can make a deal for it (and a smaller finders fee even if I can't make a deal). Sweet! You got both front and back?! AND the other piece with Liefeld's first Wolverine?! Outstanding, man, outstanding! And the image here is killer (pun!) - Logan doin' what he do. Do not wanna be those 2 guys :) Dig the depth, and so dynamic, man. Big congrats!

I don't want a Saga heartbreak
I don't need a cover splayed out thighs, no
I just want to earn the claws straight
Baby, hello, oh, no, good find
But your Wolvie’s like a rocket
Shooting straight across the line
It's fast paced for Wolvie
It's a feeling like this
It's a Liefeld Austin
It's perpetual bliss
It's that woolly bod Logan
It's, ah, there’s no stubble
This Fisch, this Fisch (unstoppable)
This Fisch, this Fisch

Major congrats on landing a super nostaligic piece! Even cooler knowing it was the second time Liefeld drew Wolverine and that you're able to connect this with the other Wolvie piece by Liefeld!

Love every bit of this! If this isn't the definition of feral I don't know what is. The moon, snow, and trees truly make this feel wild, not to mention the claws out madman headed straight toward us. Congrats on a wonderful and nostalgic cover!

Great piece. I was a huge fan of the Wolverine Saga books. It was like the cliff notes to Wolverine's history. Good luck on your quest to locate the other covers

Wow! One of Liefeld's best covers! Love this scene of Wolverine running straight at us, nearly naked, claws out and the moon rising behind him! It's just a classic image of everybody's favorite X-Man. (Well, mine anyway). I love the exaggerated perspective of Wolvie's right hand with the enormous claws coming right at us. A great example of Rob's work. Gorgeous inks by Terry Austin as well. Austin really earned his pay on this one for inking all those hairs on Wolverine's body. And I love the cool crosshatching Terry used for the night sky. Great pick-up, congrats!
