Great Autumnal mood with the idyllic sunset and moonrise.  It makes the Okeefenokee swamp that much more real.

Night scenes are not so common in Pogo, and always done with exceptional mastery and finesse. Indeed a lovely strip!

Walt Kelly is one of my favorite comic strip artists. I love the world he brought to life in his strips.. He created so many characters and so many situations that it takes on a life of its own. Even in a strip like this one, with two minor characters, you enjoy his sly humor. But it's his art that truly takes the strip to another level. You mention the two silent panels and they are amazing. Beautiful to look at and very evocative. Kelly's brushwork is unsurpassed. The thicks and thins of his line are gorgeous. This is a wonderful pick-up, congrats!

It's incredible that Pogo never faltered, well into the 1970s. Beautiful.
