DescriptionA gorgeous cover by the great Mico Suayan. It's a beautiful homage to the original Secret Wars #8 cover, but Mico made a very cool artistic choice to make half of Spidey's costume the classic red & blue and the other half the new black symbiote costume. Plus I like that Spidey is standing tall and dominates the cover image more than in the original. The flames and smoke in the background are very effective as well, making for a more apocalyptic setting. Most of the background characters are the same, though Mico had some fun with the poses and some character replacements. Most notably he substituted Wolverine for Hawkeye as the running figure on the far right (Hawkeye is still there ... just to the left of the Hulk). Mico also seems to have replaced the Enchantress with the Invisible Woman between Spidey's legs. And of course he infused the image with his awesome distinctive artistic style. This one took me a while to pull the trigger on, but I'm so glad Jiggy had patience with me, cuz I can't imagine not having it in my collection now. Thanks for looking! Social/Sharing |

Ok I'm jealous of this one, super cool! I'd much prefer an homage for a facsimile cover reprinting a key issue comic than a 1 to 1 cover recreation or re-use of the original comic's cover and this is a great example of that scenario! Mico's cover work is so impressive to behold in person, awesome pickup / congrats Paul!

Like Kavi mentions up above, I also much prefer re-interpretations over line for line recreations. The Zeck pose is far more dynamic, but like you, Pauly, I like that he takes up so much more of the cover and what's more is that on Mico's version, rather than using dynamism to show Spidey's surprise, his pose is more contemplative as he tries to figure out what's happening to him. Also, I don't know if anyone noticed, but I love that Spidey's pose is very reminiscent of Hamlet, holding Yorick's skull. Alas, poor Yorick! Kudos, man, beautiful cover all around!

Super tight artistry by Mico! It elevates the cover and its impact as Zeck and Beatty never got the time to do it this tight when they created the original.

We immediately know the homage but look at all that tonal rendering...wow. Must be even better in person, too. AND you got OG and half black costumed Spidey?! Love it, Paul, congrats!
