Very nostalgic style to remind us of when Wolverine was first interpreted by artists outside of just Cockrum and Byrne. Very exciting times when we saw many of these macho types of the 80's were based off the bravado of actors like Gil Gerard (RIP).
Bad @$$ Wolvie!
Gotta love a good price to quality ratio! Liking the way he handled the claws here. Congrats!
Yeah, not sure if Grindberg has his own style. Especially considering the Frazetta phase. Re: Bingham... I talked with him decades ago and he mentioned that his inking style was influenced by an Italian artist. Don't recall the name, it wasn't familar to me at the time. Re: Nasser/Netzer... goes without saying. But I think he did have a recognizable style.
I don't know why.. but the song Ave Maria.. popped into my head when I saw the art..congrats, by the way!
Ha! I don't know, I'm getting a Frank Sinatra "My Way" vibe.
I faced it all, and I stood tall, and stabbed him my waaaaay!
THERE it is! I love people who know how to take a cue. Perfect line and perfect timing Derek. Maybe we should take this on the road. I'll keep setting you up, and you'll keep killing it with the perfect one-liners. LOL
Eye candy, indeed! Love this!
Very cool Wolvie!
Tbh, I hated Grindberg as a young adult (Warlock, Surfer, etc...) as he was clearly always looking for his own style by aping the greats. I've come around. He still does it but with enough flavor of his own that we can recognize his art as his even if he wears his Frazetta on his sleeves.
Cool looking Wolvie. The hand drawn Wolverine logo up top and the circled X below his left foot really anchor the piece. Def would be cool to see how it was printed, hope someone finds that image for you. I haven't followed Grindberg's career all too closely either but a good price to art quality ratio is always appreciated, nice find!
Sweet sweet Wolvie piece!!
I can hear the double SNIKT right now! Congrats - well designed piece with a ton of eye appeal.
So good!!!
Nice pick up, Eric. This one really has that Klaus Janson 'Daredevil' 196 cover vibe to me, with the stance and worm's eye POV (and the Millerian style of claws doesn't hurt, either). Beautiful hand-drawn logo - wow! Sounds like you got it for a song - awesome! Big congrats, Eric - those are always really fun pick ups! :)
