Hate Monger

I really thought I was done with Hembeck sketch cards (part 3).

Yeah, yeah, I got another one. But this still only makes 8 for me. Nowhere near as bad as some people (you know who you are, LOL).

Anyway, just saw this one and liked it. For those not familiar, Monger is an old school FF villain created by Stan and Jack, who first appeared in issue #21 back in 1963. If you put a gun to my head, I couldn’t list any other appearances. But a quick Google search shows that he’s popped up about 2-3 dozen times in various titles over the years. Do I even remotely care about this character? Not in the least. So what’s it doing in my collection/gallery? Well, I think I just enjoyed the contradiction of a character with a really scary sounding name who basically looks like he’s dressed in a giant pink and purple trash bag (with chainmail no less). LOL! Honestly, the very first thing that popped into my head (I kid you not) is a box of Good & Plenty candy. Just take a peek at the Additional Images if you don’t believe me.

Ultimately, I bought this for the same reason I bought all the others. As an older collector who is just trying to survive in a very financially challenging hobby, I really appreciate how much fun and enjoyment you can get from buying something that’s still affordable for just about everyone. Especially in today’s art market. Yes, they cost way more than they did just a few years ago. But I’ve never heard of anyone having to sell off half their collection just to buy a Hembeck.
