I'd been wanting to add one of Casey Weldon's awesome pieces to my collection for years but just hadn't snagged the right one. I had even tried emailing him numerous times through his shop about commissioning a Kimono Girl but never received a response. For some that would probably put them off of an artist but I enjoy his style and art too much to let a lack of communication get in the way of the art I love. Well I finally found a piece that spoke to me and was actually available when I could purchase it so I now have a great example in my collection.
Casey painted "Highbiscus" for Thinkspace Gallery's show The Earth Laughs in Flowers held at Hawai'i Walls Invitational 2025 Group Show and later shown in Extracurricular Activities Group Show. I ended up scoring the piece when Thinkspace held their end of the year sale so I was glad I had missed it when she was first shown. I probably passed because I couldn’t afford her at the time but thankfully could when she was on sale.
I simply love her. She may not be the Kimono Girl I wanted but she is still stunning. The atmosphere of the piece is fantastic as the smoke curls around her head. The color palette is electric and really draws your eye. That magenta and pink with the green really pops. As to be expected you have Casey's wonderful whimsy as the hibiscus flower in her hair is actually weed plants. The details on her dress are gorgeous. From the beautiful lace trim to the lovely plant pattern. Just a fantastic example of this amazing artists work. Thrilled to have this lovely piece in my collection.
