I think the battle damaged Darth Vader trope is supposed to reference the idea of "there's still good in him". Except it ain't so pretty to look at. On the other hand, who can resist Darth Vader by Paul Pope ??

Anyway, the motif may be familiar, but the execution is excellent - especially the deep black of the armour. Nice image!
