Adventure Comics #103 featuring the Sandman, homage to Daredevil #158

The latest in my "One More Issue" Project series, imagining what might have happened if the heroes of the Golden Age had made an additional appearance in the 1940s. This time, Adventure Comics #103, featuring the Sandman (who in reality had bowed out with issue #102, cover-dated February 1946), battling the Gentleman Ghost, and adapted by Luis Rivera from the Miller/Rubinstein cover to Daredevil #158.

I'll confess that I've cheated a bit here with regards to continuity: the Gentleman Ghost (called just "The Ghost" in the four Golden Age stories in which he was the villain) first appeared in the Hawkman strip in Flash Comics #88, cover-dated October 1947, so over a year and a half later than this mock Adventure Comics cover - but since Jim Craddock has (in later continuity, anyway) been around since the 19th century, just consider this a previously-untold debut by the character.

(And for those people who will inevitably complain that they think the Sandman's original hat-and-gasmask look was much better, this is the costume he was wearing in 1946, so you'll just have to live with it.)

I've noted before that I try very hard not to have favourites among my commissions, but I'm very pleased indeed with the way this one turned out.
