Dame Darcy, Tomorrow Stories issue 9 page 2 (America's Best Comics 1999)

A page from the Alan Moore scripted, Dame Darcy Illustrated, "Cobweb" stories about scantally clad, Golden-Age era mystery women solving crimes.  The story here is "Farewell, My Lullabye," an obvious take on Raymond Chandler's "Farewell My Lovely" hard-boiled detective novel from 1940.  Though my college girlfriend called Chandler, Marlowe and the rest of that crew "trash," I loved and studied them as part of my major in 20th Century American Literature.

Hey, they must have been influential if an English wizard was still referencing them in American comics 60 years later, right???  For all of Moore's post-Watchman disillusionment with the comics industry, he provided key opportunities for women to work on good books in alternative comics.  Dame Darcy is one of the best.
