Steve Rude, Nexus issue 50 page 39 (First 1988)

Nexus reached 50 issues!  In 7 years!  It would take about more 38 years to reach issue 100.

Issue 50 marked the culmination of several storylines.  It ended a 6 issue crossover with the Badger ("Crossroads") that saw those two and Judah return to the bowl-shaped world.  This time, the ruler Ashram was being held hostage by Sklar.  The Gravity Well was about to explode (implode?).  And Kreed was being held for execution due to his killing actions on Mars.

I'll save you some trouble: Nexus frees Ashram, the Gravity Well is saved, and Kreed decides to take his own life from having brought dishonor on Nexus.

While there had aways been fill-in artists for the Dude, as he struggled to keep up with a monthly schedule, issue 50 brought the end of his regular duties on the book.  He continued to do many covers, and substituted in on issues at times, until he and Baron begain the series of mini-series in issue 81 that continue to this date, albeit now from Baron and Rude separately.
