Linley Sambourne letter 1877

After the retirement of John Tenniel in 1901 Linley Sambourne (1844-1910) became the joint head cartoonist for Punch with Bernard Partridge, but he had already been drawing for the magazine ever since 1867.
The expressive calligraphy on the attached envelope makes me think that
a) The invented languages of J.R.R.Tolkien didn't come out of thin air, but had rather fertile ground to grow in England
b) I'd hate to be a Victorian mailman
