Description

Here's the story on these Avengers commissions: My request was to have individual 11x17 pieces featuring different eras of Avengers history and line ups. When John drew the first two pieces it was more benefitial to draw them on one 22x17 board and later cut them apart when the drawings were finished. John came up with the notion that I may prefer them to stay as one large piece and when asked I agreed. So this piece is actually two requests on one board: The Avengers circa issue #1 (A tribute to Jack Kirby) and the group of circa issue #28 (A tribute to Don Heck). It was difficult to decide which Avengers (and their multiple costumes) would make the cut. I am very happy with the major players that are represented on these pieces. This is my Favorite Super Team drawn by one of my Favorite Artists!

Wonderful! Having grown up with these heros, I've a lot of affection for these Silver Age designs. Got to love the Savage Hulk's barber! What a fabulous gallery piece! Incredible - thanks for sharing this gem!

I love that John drew Hawkeye in his Heck design uniform with the much smaller mask and different tunic bottom. John Buscema changed the design so that it eventually resembled an elongated loincloth. I don't know who changed the mask but eventually it ended up looking like Wolverine's mask. I believe it may have been little brother Sal, who started it ignore the more complex design, but by the 80s it got out of hand.

Nice that you chose to use the blue and gold Goliath uniform also.
