Let us not forget that Jim Shooter was the writer here. For many of us, Shooter was/is a very controversial person within the Marvel universe. However, his storytelling for this period of the Avengers was incredible, and, in my opinion, the equivalent to Chris Claremont. Each character had flaws that Shooter revealed in a very humanizing way for 'Earth's Mightiest Heroes'.

I could not agree more. For me Jim Shooter was 'the' Avengers writer. Thanks for bringing this up.
