Description
Fantastic 4' wide oil on canvas oil by master illustrator Willy Pogany. Most likely a commission from the 1920's for a bar, restaurant or music venue. This came from the Charles Martignette collection, though it was not sold through the Heritage auctions. I have a few Pogany pen and inks, but never thought I'd get a massive oil by this illustration master.

I knew Charles well enough to spend a couple of days with him in Florida and saw his collection and warehouse. I do not recall this, but he also had a ton of stuff, he said, in Massachusetts. It would have been a perfect bar piece. My bar lacks this kind of huge piece, but has single-malt scotches to drown me in my sorrow for lacking it!

Pogany in color is always a treat.  His use of color unbelivable.  I have only been able to afford his illustrated books. You could stare at this and see the nuiances like the drapery, clothing, pillows, the dancing faun, and of course the ladies enjoying their show.
