Description

What I love about Cully Hamner is that he can draw ANYTHING with fantastic style. No offense to anyone who goes for sketches and commissions of the characters a particular artist is best known for, but after seeing at least 3 Blue Beetles before I got to Cully that day, I really wanted to ask him for something off the wall. Here's how the conversation went down:

Me: Hi Cully, I don't have a reference, but I was wondering if you'd mind doing something with Samuel L. Jackson
Cully: Sure, I can give it a try, I can't promise anything, but I can try.
Me: Sweet! Would you mind doing him as his character from Pulp Fiction?
Cully: Ok, I think I can remember how his Jerry Curl looked in that.
Me: Would you mind drawing him eating cereal?
Cully: Let me get this straight. You want Samuel L. Jackson in the wig from Pulp Fiction eating cereal? That's definitely the weirdest request I've had today. (starts to draw) Well there was a granny in bondage gear earlier...
Me: I started to ask for the bowler hat Riddler..but thought this would be fun
Cully: (smiling) I would've preferred that!
Me: I figured, that's why I waited until after you started drawing to mention it. You know this means I'm going to have to ask for a Travolta next time I see you.
Cully: I don't know if you're getting that man.

Cully is a fabulous artist who deserves all the success he's had in comics and a super nice guy who doesn't mind humoring insanity, and it's great to meet folks like that if you're going to ask them to draw (often fictional) individuals eating cereal.
