Easily and by far my single most favorite page from the entire series. Actuallly, one of my all time favorite Muth paintings ever (along with the Doctor Strange piece also in this gallery).

While so many of the images from this series were either too intense or provacative, the beauty and innocence of this scene immediately made it stand out for me.

I love rainy days! And the juxtaposing of these two children playing on what most others would consider to be such a gloomy day, was such a brilliant choice by the artist.

The depth and detail of this piece are a never ending source of awe for me. The scene seems to go on forever, as the walkway curves into and beyond the exquisitely painted patch of trees. The refelection of the children on the wet ground and the kite tangled in the tree are two of my favorite detail elements.

In creative terms, the piece is brilliant, beautiful, and breathtakigng. As a display medium, it is an image that I have never tired of looking at even after 25 years. ENJOY!

I have to agree with you. This is also my favorite of the pages. There is a place in San Obispo, CA right in town where there is a little stream with a rock/boulder wall similar to this drawing. Simply "A Good Life!", Cheers, K.

Thanks Kung! Glad you feel the same way I do about this painting. I can't imagine that there is actually a real place that looks like this scene, but if there is, I would love to spend some time there!

Everytime I swing through your gallery I find a new room that sparks my intrest. While I've heard of J.J. Muth and Moonshadow I haven't paid much attention to his work until very recently. So of course what do I find when I stop by for a Mignola fix...Unbelievable. I just love this painting, it just pulled me in as soon as I entered this room.

I agree 100 percent. While there was some racy stuff in the overall series, this particular illustration is one that would work beautifully hanging in a children's nursury. It's no wonder Muth's had such success moving into children's books.

Thanks Mark.  Probably my single favorite page from the entire first series.  Stay safe and thanks again.
