Muth Gallery Room

While my collection may seem to reflect a lack of interest in color or painted works, that could not be any further from the truth. Although the bulk of my artistic examples is in black & white, I have a great deal of fondness and admiration for the paintings of artists like Jeff Jones, Charles Vess, Kent Williams, Barry Windsor-Smith, George Pratt, Scott Hampton, Berni Wrightson, Bill Sienkiwicz, Alex Ross, Brian Stelfreeze, and many others.

Among my very favorite color works are the brilliant watercolors provided by Jon J Muth for the original Moonshadow series (his Dracula graphic novel being a close second). I was fortunate enough to get in on the artwork very early and managed to secure most of the better splashes. While I also had a shot at most of the covers, I decided to pass because I wasn't crazy about most of the design work on them (most, if not all, contained panels or collage elements that I did not find to be aesthetically pleasing).

Of all the splashes that I liked from the series, I managed to secure all but two (which I hope to run across someday and acquire from the owners). Of the eight Moonshadow pieces I've originally owned, I have only ever offered one for sale (see my FOR SALE gallery) and traded another one to a good friend (who I am happy to say still has it).

My profound thanks to Allen Spiegel and Wally Harrington for giving me first crack at these beautiful paintings, AND especially for their patience in waiting for me to complete all my time payments! :) They took a big risk on someone they hardly knew and I hope that seeing these pieces STILL in my possession (after 20 years) will justify the faith they showed in me. THANKS you two!
