Thanks Robert.  Probably another reason I decided to go ahead and re-post.  I always assumed there would be people like you who had not found this in my gallery before.  I know there's a lot of stuff to wade through, and Muth isn't exactly high on people's search list.  So when I was finally able to scan the piece, I figured I could kill two birds with one stone.  Update image, while at the same time possibly exposing the piece to people who normally wouldn't be looking for it.  Anyway, so glad you were finally able to see it.  Especially in the way it was meant to be seen.  Thanks again for the comment and please stay safe.

Wow! Dont think I saw the original post of this. But I'm gald I caught this one. What a piece! I love the colorful display of Strange's magic which tjese days is usually just one color but here we get treated to a cornocopia of them! Really striking and makes you alpreciate the effort put into a deceptively simple image. Congrats and thanks for sharing! 

Thanks buddy!  What really cracks me up about my gallery and all the compliments I get is that I'm pretty sure most of these people probably haven't even gone through half of it.  I've been on CAF since 2005 and I still get comments from longtime followers that they have never seen a particular piece before.  Like I said, I know I have a lot of stuff to wade through.  And most of us dont' have the time or patience to go through EVERYTHING.  Plus, not every piece is everyone's cup of tea.  But it still always makes me laugh every time someone stumbles across a piece after 15, 10, or even 5 years.  Bottom line, I'm just grateful that people actually take the time to visit the gallery at all.  And I guess in a way, it's kind of neat that they are stillf finding stuff each time they visit.  Anyway, appreciate the comment as always.

So you had CAF Premium for how many years?  The very least you could do is take advantage and get some bigger scans of these amazing pieces.  Hell, just bring them over and I'LL rescan for you, if that's what it takes!

For your information, I've updated the scans for the ENTIRE gallery THREE TIMES now!  When I first joined CAF, everything I had up was from photocopies (unless I was provided a scan from the seller).  When I got my own scanner, I updated every single scan to the actual art.  When I upgraded to Premium, I updated all my scans to larger files.  And when Bill increased the upload capacity, I upgraded to even larger file sizes.  Not sure how many people on this site can say that they have upgraded lthe scans for over 500 pieces of art three times.  But hey, I appreciate the offer Marcus (even though it's not real, LOL).

Wow! This piece is new to me as well, but I am entranced by it. I love the fact that Strange is in full color and the woman is practically drained of color. I'm fascinated by the two crescent moons Stange is holding, each with a burst of light pouring over the moon's edge, where Strange's hand touch the crescents. And then there are the twin crescents connecting Strange to the girl,the light bursts from his hand seem to flow into the girl, perhaps restoring her color? So much to see and contemplate. Exquisite piece of art.

Thanks buddy!  As stated in my description, I'm not a huge Doctor Strange fan.  I've never, ever, been character specific in my collecting.  But like you, I was entranced from the first minute I saw this.  I love Jay's work. especially his watercolor work.  And of course the image is striking.  But the first thing that popped into my head over 30 years ago when I bought this (and still does every time I look at it) are all the symmetrical elements involved in the piece.  The patterned circle that surrounds Strange, the circle that seems to eminate from his head and passes through the girl's head, the matching crescents on both sides and the glow coming off them.  Even her hair and the way her gown hangs, contribute to the symmetry of the piece.  I can't imagine that any or all of these things weren't intentional.  But yeah, every, sigle, time I look at, one word pops into my head.  Symmetry.  Appreciate the comment pal.  Be safe!

Appreciate you pointing that out buddy.  Especially since you HAVE seen it in person.  Will update my description with the dimensions, but for now, the image area is 16 x 20.  I imagine the piece extends beyond the mat just a bit, but we'll call it 16 x 20.  I should also point out, for those of you reading this comment thread, that Jonathan was the first to comment on the original posting.  His comment read, "Really sorry we couldn't get a decent shot of this to post."  What Jon meant by that is he had tried on numerous visits to get a good shot of the framed piece with his phone.  But there were always issues of either glare, or reflection, or just poor focus.  At that point, I still wasn't willing to take it out of the frame.  Better late than never I guess.  Of course when the time finally did come, it was Jonathan who photoshopped each half of the scan together.  So it took a while, but Jon and I finally got the image we both wanted.

Thsi piece is so utterly entrancing.  I'm so glad you pulled the trigger 20 years ago.  It must be such a joy to look at in person.  Bravo !!!

Wow!  Perfect style and execution for a piece featuring the Doc.  Lotsa skill on display, from composition to linework to colors...must really be a sight in person!  Big congrats, Eric!

Ok, that is the best thing I have seen on CAF in weeks if not this year!  Wow!  Wow!  Wow!  I love Muth art of this era.  Having had my mind blown by Moonshadow and Dracula, Muth art has a very special place in my heart.  He didn't always get it perfect but often he did and when he did...oh boy!  And this is a big OH BOY!  Belated congratulations.  

Thanks Jeff!  I think you and I are of the same mindset.  I discovered Muth with Moonshadow and was so blown away I had to go back and find the Dracula GN.  I still so regret not being able to get anything from that book.  I've always felt that watercolor was Jay's best medium.  Anyway, so glad to share this with another big fan.  This is a major OH BOY for me as well.  Easily in my collection Top Ten (if not Top Five).  Really appreciate the kinds words.  Please take care and stay safe.

If you really wanted to come clean, you'd also have admitted that the main reason you chose to relist it instead of just upload this new scan is because you wanted to get all the comments you knew would be coming by reposting it, well deserved, of course! Absolutely magnificent piece, congrats.

Well, if the scan of the comic page got 8 comments in 15 years, and the scan of the actual painting gets 30 comments in less than two days, can you blame me?  I mean, which would YOU rather look at?  Of course I still get the best view, since I get to see it in person.

Hey man, you're definitely preaching to the choir on this one. I was the first person to vocally champion collectors to get scanners and scan their art to show the art the respect it deserves instead of just showing crappy photos, so nobody is a bigger proponent for presenting their collections online with quality images than I've been. Keep it up, Eric, and ask Jonathan to do the same for every piece you currently don't have a good scan for! Or better yet, invest in a scanner yourself.

Bloody hell! You are a glutton for punishment!!! Scanned three times!!! I bought an A3 scanner, new, years ago. Used it two or three times and can no longer use it as the latest version of windows does not recognise the drivers for it. My computer had died so had to get a new hard drive. if you know anyone whos good at tech solutions I would appreciate some help.

Yeah, I bought one of those cheap A3 scanners on eBay and worried about outdated software as well.  I just ended up getting an old refurbished PC and dedicated that for scanning only.  It's not connected to the internet and it's never even plugged in, unless I need to scan something.  That's the only time I ever boot it up.  So very little wear and tear, and I never have to update it.  Problem solved.  As for all that scanning, I'm not a glutton for punishment.  I'm just a Virgo perfectionist who's never satisfied.  I guess that's even worse, eh?

Thanks buddy!  I was a little worried about that "again" part.  But there's been so much feedback from people who are seeing it for the first time, that I knew I did the right thing.  If I had just updated the scan to the original post, I doubt anyone would have even noticed.  And all that work to get as true and accurate an image as possible, would have been for naught.  Anyway, thanks as always for your support.  If you are ever in the area, you are more than welcome to come see it in person.  Along with a few other goodies I might have lying around.  Be safe my friend.

Thanks buddy!  I have zero doubt in my mind that if I had put this down and walked away to think about it, the guys standing behind me would have been fighting each other for it.  In a way, they really did me a favor.  If they had NOT been behind me sweating me, I probably WOULD have gone off to think about it for a bit.  It was very early in my collecting career and it was a ton of money at the time (basically my entire SD budget that year).  Today, this caliber of piece would be a no-brainer.  But as a nervous newbie 35 years ago, it was a HUGE decision.  So for all those "sharks" standing behind me who could smell the blood in the water, thanks for the psychological push.  Knowing that I have been the sole owner of this piece since it's creation, fills me with more pride than you can imagine.  As always, appreciate the comment my friend.  You be safe out there.

Jon J Muth should be a lot more on my radar, his painted work always stands out and catches my eye.  I need to investigate a lot more on his work, as this piece is rediculously gorgeous and very happy you reposted it properly.  Kudos to you and your confession.
