DescriptionI recently acquired this Jones print from the UK with mixed emotions as to condition, but I'm glad to have it as I love the Solomon Kane character, and I believe this is very rare and difficult to find.I did find this information for the same item on Worthpoint's site which sold in 2008 (edited to remove screaming): "This 1975 , 11 X 15 Ultra rare print was to be part of a never completed Robert E. Howard portfolio by The Studio Group (Smith, Kaluta, Jones, Wrightson). It says, Plate 4 on the bottom, they sat in a warehouse for 25 years, not signed or numbered but limited to 500 copies, most were destroyed." This was matted well, but someone used masking tape to apply the print to the matte, and also removed the copyright and title from the print (destroyed?) and placed it on the back of the matting as shown in my additional photos. I am going to leave it this way as the tape is entirely outside the prints visible borders and to remove it could damage the print. Otherwise, this print is in exceptional condition, on a heavier weight textured paper, and is still nearly a brilliant white after almost 40 years. This is my favorite image of Solomon Kane to date! If you have any input or knowledge about this print, I'd love to know what I can. Thanks, -Vaughn Social/Sharing |

What an amazing piece! Your taste is impeccable.I would love to know what the other "Studio" members contributions were to have been, if the portfolio had gone to fruition... And especially, what Bernie Wrighson's imagination would conjure from the stories!!!

This print was produced by Middle Earth (Steve Allen), who produced portfolios by Frazetta, Jones, et. al. The proposed portfolio was to include 6 artists. It was not necessarily a Studio project, especially since the Studio had not even formed when this print was published. Jeffrey's print was the only one to be produced. The information taped to the back was trimmed off the bottom of the print.

I frequently look for Solomon Kane pieces done in this vein, but find very few... Tony Parker did a piece I've seen here on CAF, but alas... it is not for sale, but I keep watching and Tony did say he might consider a commission at some point in the future... With his talent, I can see why he would have a backlog!
