I recently won this on ComicLink... I didn't know much about the artist, but I really like the Jungle Queen, what there is of her outfit, and the Black Panthers. David Holden, a very nice gentlemen here on CAF, told me about a few thing about Sonny and sadly about his demise.

As I researched and learned more about Sonny, I found much of his artwork was really quite amazing... I'll be watching for more pinups as time goes on and am looking forward to receiving this...

I found this very old frame yesterday at a shop which had to close up and move inventory in order to change buildings. They originally wanted $70 for the frame and the picture of the old guy (he's included in the extra pics for an age reference, or if anyone recognizes him?), but I managed to get this very nice frame for $15. What a deal.

Since I received this Sonny Trinidad piece, I have looked for other splash/pin up pages like this, and seen a dozen or so in Google images, but I have found very few here on CAF or elsewhere. This is such a beautifully detailed piece, I would think it would have been published somewhere but no idea where or when it was done.
There is a preliminary (of another piece, or the beginning of this?) lightly penciled on the reverse. I have done my best to enhance the image on the reverse of the Jungle Queen just to have some record of it being there.

The paper is somewhat yellowed, but overall it's in great condition with the Jungle Queen still bursting from the paper.

The following is a short article I found about Sonny for those who might be interested:

Hal Santiago reports that Filipino Komiks Illustrator Sonny Trinidad has passed away yesterday, November 23, 2009. The wake is currently being held in his hometown of Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Also known as Celso Trinidad, Sonny won the Best Serial Illustrator award during the 1984 KOMOPEB Parangal sa Komiks. His work VIRGA also won in the Best Novel Illustration Fantasy Category.

A native of Sta. Rosa, Laguna, Trinidad�s first professional exposure to comics came by way of working as an assistant to Francisco V. Coching, which would explain the similarity of his early work to Coching.

In the US, he was known for his work on Conan The Barbarian, Dracula, Morbius, Bloodstone, and Deadly Hands of Kung Fu.

Added the name Virga to the title after seeing a colored image of Sonny�s Virga Amazon character in virtually this same stance, but with a leopard and wearing a top... you can see it at the link below and draw your own conclusions:
