Coats - Wizards Den

I just won this off eBay after watching closely all week and can't believe I got this for such a fair price. Don't know the artist and can't find anything out about him, but the time and effort he put into all the little details in this "Wizards Room" piece are all I need to see he could have been a great talent.

The piece measures 18 x 24 and was done in 1994. It contains all the elements for what I think to be a fantastic fantasy scene. The Wizard conjuring up a form of a Phoenix from his magical cauldron, while reading from a book of magic spells hovering in front of him to read his incantations.

All this with a Dragon nestled behind his chair, hundreds of little tiny details (Boook, swords, a ship in a bottle, beakers, tubes, chests, and a bong!), make for a great scene. One of my great appreciations for Wrightsons work came out his eye for details, and this piece is loaded with details. Can't wait to see this in person and get up some higher resolution photos.

This is no Wrightson, but it is still fantastical...

I was finally able to get some better pictures in a preferred lighting. As I framed this and took all the pictures, I just couldn't believe all the little details I found as I went...

Top Right is a small rendition of Coats - Dragons Castle art.
The little mice carrying a roll-your-own cigarette!
Several assorted smoking implements.
The guy flipping you off.
Every book is titled, some with names other's more silly.
The word WIZARD spelled out on the tiles at the bottom.
The intricate chest.
The bird coming out of the cauldron.
The little men climbing up and jumping from the curtain rod.

The guy was definitely from the 70's and incorporated a lot of humor from the period into this very detailed drawing.
