DescriptionA neat sketch that I picked up awhile ago and never posted. Love the gesture in this one. Frazetta had a way to do tight little sketches, loosely.Social/Sharing |

I'd never until just now made this connection, but Frazetta's baffling, magical way of making all these squiggles and crosshatchings in gestural figures that are so compelling remind me of George Herriman. If you did a close up cross section of (say) how his hair works or the definition of his muscles, you wouldn't be that far from Cocorino County. Really excellent piece of work, and so mysterious how he pulled it off.

Whoa! That is so cool!! The level of detail in a "rough" sketch is pretty amazing.

'A neat sketch'? I'll send you something that qualifies as a 'neat sketch'. This is something much more than that, Mr. Butler. Thanks for posting - it's gorgeous.

Superb pick up John, an incredibly expressive piece I've admired since the days of Russ Cochran's catalogs... even his gate is singular.... well done.

Top-shelf Frazetta piece, perfectly combines grace and power, we can almost feel the heft of the axe!

Gosh! It sends me shivers... It may technically qualify as a sketch, but it´s so much more! Raw uncompromising genius...

Does this pre-date or post-date the Conan of Cimmeria cover painting? Either way, this sketch evokes that classic in a spectacular way.
