Kari drew himself in his cartoons as a little man dressed in black with a large hat. In his 50s cartoons, he'd also often draw his two cats.
The location in the cartoon is identifiable as Vanhankirkon puisto, The Old Church Park, in Helsinki, a disused old cemetary. People commonly refer to it as Ruttopuisto, the "Plague park", in reference to mass graves in the area after a 17th century famine and a plague epidemic shortly afterwards. Despite the history, today the park is a popular location for picnics.
