Jim Burns - The Thing (painting as shown on the US book cover) Compared to the original painting, as you can see, the dog was removed and blood added. I guess Universal did not want the "dog/Thing" surprise to be forecast, and books tend to sell better with red &/or blood on the cover. Ahh... the wonders of the Marketing Department.
