DescriptionA spectacular commission by John Paul. My scan does not do the inking justice which is a shame. The inks are thick, layered, shiny and sit on the paper with a rich decadence. The paper seems to have a slight bit more gloss to it than normal comic board but not like magazine paper either. I don't know what combination of factors came through for these inks but they are gorgeous in person. The image and mood that Jean Paul captured is also amazing. The atmosphere is perfect and shows a deeper understanding of the character which I think is important when it comes to Corto. Anyone can draw Corto, not everyone understands him and only those that can both draw and understand him can convey him in the image. This piece is 14 x 17 inches and I hope to get on my wall too.Social/Sharing |

Back in the day, this would be called "illustration". Awesome pairing of artist and subject.

Absolutely spectacular! The only thing I'm shocked about is that it never occurred to me to suggest him for a commission. As today's youth would say, Jean Paul Leon "is the shit!".

John Paul can do no wrong. I've not seen him do a sub-standard commission piece yet, and this is nothing but a great example of that. So is my Hellboy piece by him! ;-)

Stunning work by a true master. Mr. Leon captures the essence of the character and realism of the setting. It does not get much better than this!

A beautifully executed piece, Jeff. Jean Paul is the perfect artist to capture Corto Maltese - and he provides all the evidence you need with this gorgeous piece of work.

Gorgeous commission! The composition draws my eye right to CM, and I agree with your comments on how the artist captured the character, but I just love the textures throughout the drawing.

This does draw the eye to CM, but the remainder of the art is your eye and mind to great. Like the layers of inks everything else is a layered part of the drawing including the lighting source.

Stunning commission by John Paul Leon. I love the level of detail John Paul put into this piece. The art is so intricatelly detailed that I feel like I've been to this room, this place. You don't see that much art these days that takes this kind of effort to bring a place to life. Background seems to be a lost art. Which makes pieces like this that much more special. Wonderful pick-up, congrats!

Astounding piece. His eye for detail while still allowing the image to read clearly is truly genius. What a treasure.
