Description

The most evil of all Disney villains is rendered in this museum quality concept/story painting done for the "Night on Bald Mountain" Sequence in FANTASIA. Painted by the Danish illustrator Kay Nielsen (1886-1957)."Nielsen is considered the third great illustrator of the gift book, the successor and equal to Arthur Rackham and Edmund Dulac, the top turn of-the-century "Golden Age" illustrators of deluxe books." Kay did work for the Disney Studio from 1938-1941 and in 1957. 9" image matted with an opening of 12.5"x 9.75". Published in THE DISNEY VILLIAN by Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas, Hyperion, New York,1993,page 76. Also found on the large model sheet shown in WALT DISNEY'S FANTASIA by John Culhane, Abrams, New York,1983,page 186.

It is unbelievable that there has been only one comment on this fabulous piece.  It is clearly one of the best, if not the very best, works by Nielsen, and Nielsen was one of the best story/inspirational artists who ever worked at Disney's studio.  Well, I think that this is clearly one of the finest pieces of ALL art on CAF.

This is one of the most impressive pieces of animation art I have ever seen in my 30 years of collecing.
