Description

It's off to Luxur for Conan, Belit and the slave-girl Neftha! Just a fantastic Hyborian Age splash, rendered by Howard Chaykin and Ernie Chan, from one of the best periods of the Conan the Barbarian series.

I've actually owned this one since 2016 and am finally posting it as part of my ongoing effort to have more of my favorite artists/creators represented in my public CAF gallery!

Really nice Gene...from a great stretch of issues for that title.

They're in for sticker shock at the Luxor these days.  This is a great Chaykin story montage collection used to fill up a splash!  Chan ably inks to add the right grit and grime to make the Hyborian world more harsh and dangerous.  Chaykin's early fantasy works had the dynamism of his mentor Gil Kane's sense of design that defined the look of 70's Marvel covers.  It might be why this looks bascially like a 2nd cover.

I love anything Conan that Ernie Chan touched in this era - such a great opening splash. Congratulations!

An amazing piece.  I agree that Chaykin and Chan's art on these issues is steller and this is really a great example.  Thanks for sharing it.

I didn't know Howard Chaykin did a stint penciling Conan! Wow--He did a very credible job, too. Conan looks just as muscular and the women look just as attractive as they did when John Buscema was drawing them--Or maybe that's just Ernie Chan's strong inks making me think that. Anyway, it's a terrific title splash page from a great era.
