DescriptionWhat was best than a team involving John Buscema and Neal Adams and his crue on Conan ?Besides John inking himself, very tough to reach that level. Yes with the Conan # 119 splash it seems I specialized in Tavern scene :), but this one done in 1974 brings a lot of memory. Graciously offered by the incomparable pencils of John Buscema, the talented inks of Neal Adams and Russ Heath who use his brush at least on the two beautifully inked people on the right bottom corner. If it's not enough more to see on the back of the page. Pencils and inks by Big John, see additional picture. Social/Sharing |

Michael, did you pick the inkers by eye? Crusty Bunkers were guys that worked inhouse at continuity studios right? I definitely see Neal Adams in Conans figure, particularly the hair. I see the Russ heath in the foreground also & Buscema inks in the background as well, although I think there might be a couple other inkers in there too. I knew John Tartaglione sr. in the late 80's and Buscema would often give him a batch of pages to "spot blacks" on when he inked himself. I wonder if he worked on this page as well. anyway, great page and thanks for the history as well. great stuff!

This was confirmed by fellow Crusty Bunkers Joe Rubinstein and Bob McLeod who told us on some FB group about Russ doing a lot of the job on this page especially the two characters in the bottom right corner. Big John was not on the inks in this isue and the previous one. Maybe some others CB did a line here and there like Ralph Reese but mostly the job was done by Neal and Russ on this page.

What an amazing piece by an amazing team. I had no idea Russ Heath ever worked on Conan. This is just a nice scene... typical Conan ! Great piece for your collection.
