DescriptionWhile only the word balloon ties this in with the theme, this is one of the more visually interesting sketches I received over the years. Lark, at the San Diego con in 2003, did this quick marker sketch for me at the DC booth, and he no doubt did dozens if not hundreds of versions of the same sketch for fans over the course of the con. But look closely at this sketch...Lark didn't rough the figure out at first. Instead, he built the image from the shadows in Batman's mask and moved outward. The image is constructed from the negative space, almost like a scratch-paper sketch. Furthermore, his minimalist approach nevertheless achieved a thoroughly realistic and moody result. Fantastic.
