DescriptionIn 2003, NDM published a Ted Naifeh comic entitled How Loathsome, a mini-series about sexuality that was really ahead of its time. It explored trans life and alternative sexual lifestyles such as S&M. While it was a mature-readers book (obviously), it certainly wasn't porn. It was nuanced and focused on characterization. It was an outstanding comic that merited a larger audience.This is one of my favorite sketches in the book if only because the artist incorporated a likeness of me into it! Set in How Loathsome's world, this playful sketch offers an unusual spin on the theme. Rendered completely in pencil, this quick drawing nevertheless conveys a lot of detail. Naifeh fills in only the middle of the boot, giving it a leathery shine. And I was amazed at how quickly he roughed out a likeness of me, in a completely different position and with a completely different expression than those I had when I stood before him as he drew.
