Description
WWI aerial combat action on twice-up Craftint board by Alex Toth! The visual storytelling by Toth in this powerful story ("Lone Hawk") is spectacular. Toth is really in his element drawing planes. Page 4 to the story is gritty and gruesome, with the Red Baron getting strafed in the final panel. This story acts as a historical account of the World War I Canadian fighter pilot William "Billy" Bishop. Bishop shot down 72 enemy aircraft (planes and balloons) making him the Allies' third highest scorer. This story discusses Bishop's first flight, then shows some of his various successful missions. In addition to his kills, the story points out the rarity of him making it out of the war alive unlike many other well known pilots during this era.

Maybe the nicest page in the story? This has to be spectacular in person. Blazing Combat was mighty fine.

Great page.  Toth was a true pioneer in comics teaching both in his words and by example.
