DescriptionThis page from the 1970 story "The Traders' Trap" was produced by Jim Aparo, but in a very different media than what he would normally work with. The gorgeous underwater scene is very effectively illustrated in ink and Conte crayon over graphite on coquille board for an almost surreal effect with wonderfully rich shadows and depth. This page is stunning in person, trust me!Social/Sharing |

Beautiful use of mixed media. I also like the sense of grace of the figures under water.

Back then, Aparo was still relatively new at DC. He was definitely drawing his ass off. Coquille seems to be a lot faster to work on (than using zipatone or duoshade). Great page !!!

Superb page from the most beautiful drawn storyline with the sexy SF girl and bad and uglyaliens from Aparos first Aqua-run (perhaps has was in competition with Neal Adams, who did a tie-in story backup in these 2 issues) !
