Description
When Red Sonja first appeared in Conan #23, fan boys everywhere sat up and took notice. A powerful warrior woman in a chain mail bikini? What's not to like? After all the bulked-up male heroes in the comics, finally there was a female who didn't take crap from anyone (Even if she did dress like Pamela Anderson in "Baywatch"). Sonja became so popular she was given her own comic book in 1977. This is the cover to Red Sonja #5, which was penciled and inked by Frank Thorne. It's pretty spectacular--check out all the fabulous detail he put into it. Especially the crazy two-headed dragon with the frog-like tongue wrapping around Sonja's torso. That's gotta tickle!

Super impressed with the intricate detail on Red Sonja's antagonists, and also with the look of R.S. herself.  Congrats!

This is a remarkably cool cover, and the sans-trade dress version with the columns and temple lamps is just wonderful. Too cool!
