DescriptionI really enjoyed Paul Pope's 100%, published by DC's Vertigo imprint in 2002. Set in New York City in the year 2038, Pope's "graphic movie" interweaves the stories of six characters with romance & techno/sci-fi elements in a futuristic setting. The characters' inner conflicts take center stage in the story, with the elaborately constructed future landscape providing the backdrop. I found the slice-of-life stories, not adhering to a traditional 3-act structure, fresh and imaginative, and Pope's gritty art is wonderful and really suits the book. This oversized (19 x 24") wraparound cover to issue #2 features "gastro club" bartender Kim at the grain silo home of Strel's cousin Eloy (a.k.a. "Kettlehead"), along with Eloy's art project of collecting 100 tea kettles tuned to all whistle the same note creating "one hundred percent sound". According to the prelims that came with the cover (see "Additional Images"), the cover was originally intended to include Eloy and Strel in addition to Kim, while the "eyeball" motif of the tea kettles was intentional. Love it! Did you get this piece recently, Gene? I remember this piece was on ebay for a bit and really regret not pulling the trigger. Big congrats! Paul's best story.

Thanks! I bought it from a dealer in late 2019, though, I do remember looking at it on eBay earlier that year - glad I got another bite at the apple!

Nice pick up, Gene! This cover is 💯 exemplary of Paul Pope's style. Thanks for the description. I haven't read 100%, but I do know this cover, so the tea kettles now make sense. To me they always looked like War of the Worlds type of alien pods!

Definitely a conversation starter for Pope fans seeing one of the published covers where he built his legend upon!
