Description
The Enchantress is determined to visit yet more misery onto poor Valkyrie in this tale, that crosses over into Defenders #20. Her conjured ‘Valkyrie’ steals a cosmic harmonica from the Sanctum Sanctorum, and abducts the vagrant, Alvin Denton, from Central Park. The Eye of Agamotto locates the real Valkyrie, over in Barbara Norris’ home town of Cobbler’s Roost (where Valkyrie has gone to try to make sense of her past as Barbara). Here, after finding Denton, the Thing offers to take him back to Central Park – but he wants to travel instead to… Cobbler’s Roost, as he feels his daughter is in mortal danger. His daughter is of course, Barbara Norris. There is a recap of events shown in Hulk #126, which had one of the story arcs that led to the creation of the Defenders.
Sal was my favourite artist on the Thing, and this lovely sequence runs through the gamut of our hero’s miserable, grizzly expressions – all part of his pretense at being unfeeling, while helping a down-trodden stranger-in-need.
