Description

“It’s clobberin’ time!” indeed, and a celestial harmonica is thrown in for good measure.
In a dastardly plot by the Enchantress to gain control of a magical harmonica, she has to locate the Valkyrie and Val’s (or rather, Barbara Norris’) father, Alvin Denton. The Enchantress’ plans go awry when Denton blows into the harmonica in the hope that it will save his daughter, but instead it destroys all reality. Fortunately the Thing is on hand to blow into it again, putting everything back into place, and to wallop the Executioner. But it’s all too late for father and daughter to be reunited, and poor Alvin passes away. Steve Gerber really knew how to extract every ounce of sorrow from his cast of characters. This issue saw the first part of a story which continues in Defenders #20, and which builds on the backstory of Barbara Norris.
I’d always wanted a “clobberin’ time” page, and to get one that also ties into the Defenders, and Valkyrie’s troubled past, was a real bonus. Sal captures all of the impact of ol’ Blue Eyes’ haymaker, and has that ability to change the pace to also capture all of the pathos of Valkyrie’s confusion and grief. Mike Esposito’s inks on Sal are perfect.
The page is severely chopped at the bottom, presumably in the printing process, cutting off some of the text.

Paul, another stunner. Sal and Frank. And the Executioner and the Enchantress! Wow. And on top of all of that, you have the Thing's "it's clobberin time". Heaven on Earth panel page!

Wow,Never read this story but it sounds and looks great ! I'll have to find this one and read it ! Nice pick-up ! I just picked up a page from a Marvel two -in -One #28, with a battle page featuring theThing and Namor duking it out.
