That really is fantastic staging by Gammill. It sets the scene so nicely, and is reminiscent of Perez, in that the page doesn't feel packed yet has loads of detail. Great baddie page! Congrats
I very nearly went for this page when I saw it on auction! I read this story so many times...great grab!
Kerry Gammill has always been one of my favourite "What could've been" comic book artists. He has always been a fantastic penciller, but as with most comic artists, was sometimes paired with inkers whose style didn't mesh well with his work. Nonetheless, as this page shows, he was an expert storyteller. Who cares if there's no Spidey? All of those Spidey foes makes up for it! Oh, and en anglais, nous écrivons 'série' comme "series", toujours avec une S a la fin. Il est toujours dans la forme singulière.
I tend to love and specialize in that kind of artist. Those great artists/storytellers whose body of work is thin compared to others despite high quality (Gammill, Lightle, Hawbaker, Plunkett…even Golden or Knowlan…)
I fondly remember this series as the art was great and it was cool seeing some of the second tier bad guys get some real play. Great example here as you note from both a pure illustration and storytelling perspective! Congrats!
Great page!!
