Description
Professor X Illustration by Mike Perkins. Pencils/Inks by Mike Perkins. Size: 11"x14"

Now that I finally have all the pieces I picked up during CAF Con May 2021 edition (CAF Live? Comic Art Live?...eh i'll stick to CAF Con, sorry Bill Cox!) in hand, I'm going to start sharing those pickups to my gallery!

Had to start with this visually stimulating and trippy Professor X Illustration from the incredible Mike Perkins! Shout out to Ruben for this one, and apologies again for breaking up the Xavier and Jean Grey pieces ;-)

I love this piece from Mike, the first of his I've been able to add to my collection. Ruben said it best really in his description for the piece during the con.

"An astonishing work of art, I dare say no other artist in memory has ever illustrated a piece that made this character look as interesting as he does here. It isn't easy to take a fictional character who is visually nothing more than a older, bald man in a suit and not only make him interesting, but even fascinating. Yet with the manner in which his facial expression is delineated to show his intense stare, combined with the creative positioning of his hands and fingers and the visually mesmerizing mind waves whose ends actually form the outline of the head without actually needing to draw it in, Perkins has accomplished exactly that, here. In spades!"

The only thing I'll add, is that it gives me some serious Steranko vibes especially with those mentioned mind waves that outline the head without closing it off directly.

This piece is so good I had to make it my avatar in the Comic Art Live chats (Kavi H)!

Thanks again Ruben and Mike!

Mind blowing!  Has the first class vibes.  I think it's creepy enough to hang anywhere and start conversations like Edvard Munch's The Scream.

wow i love that comparison to a fine art piece such as Munch's The Scream, Marcus! It does have a certain creepy nature to it, could see it being a conversation starter for sure!

This has got to look so insanely good in person. It is blowing me away seeing it on CAF, but man this is one that you have got to frame so you can see it every day. Huge congrats!

absolutely Kent!! thanks for the comment. I'm already sort of working through frame ideas, prob will just keep it simple and let the piece do all the talking (and no colors obviously). will def be a piece worth looking at every day! thank you :)

Loved all these portraits that Mike did for the auction! Glad I picked up one, wish I could've bought more...

Thanks Tony! You and me both lol. I was def eyeing that Jean Grey to pair with the Xavier (per Ruben's suggestion) but ultimately only picked up 1 cause I already spent too much at that point. It happens ha! ;)

So good.  Atruly indicative Prof X example, as well as a Perkins example.  Outstanding pure illustration and love those vertigo-ish lines in the back.  Congrats!

Zounds!  I have -no- idea why I have not commented on this beauty already (perhaps the idea had been in my head... until some unseen force exerted itself upon my subconscious, which withered like so much sun-beaten lettuce!), but I -love- this, big time. I love the gorgeous composition here (half wavy, half pitch black), which provides an arresting visual background upon which Mike can weave his magic. I love how open the top half of the piece feels and how closed-in the bottom feels (with that fantastic use of negative space to frame Chuck's head with his arms).  I love the scratchy lines Mike uses to render Xavier's face, popping the eyes, and I love how Mike leaves the top of the Prof's head perfectly (almost blindingly) white, like a brilliant beacon of power emanating from his noggin.  But the thing I love the most might be the long pinky nail on Chucky's left hand.  Does Professor X not keep his fingernails trimmed neatly?  Is he "that guy"?  It had never even crossed my mind before, and now I can't think of anything else (see? I'm telling you: withered lettuce! :) )!

Gorgeous piece, Kavi!  Mike is a wizard!  Congrats on the great score!
