DescriptionFilipe Andrade - Siege Vol 2 #1 p 16 (Kang the Conqueror splash; Secret Wars Battleworld)I finally became introduced to the wonderful, surreal, and expressionist art of Andrade through his standout work on Leila Starr. I stumbled upon this splash of Kang the Conqueror and just had to have it. Love the balance between clean lines, dynamic finishes and washes, and abstract sensibilities. 11x17 on art board; Marvel Comics Social/Sharing |

Andrade's ethereal lineweights makes Kang more than what our reality can hold. It is as if he is something not of this time and place. Kang will conquer us all...

Andrade's ink wash in his early work is a sight to behold. He deftly handles light and dark on the page in a way that guides us as viewers. This was a fun series thanks to his art. Congrats on snagging a page!

I couldn't agree with you more. I know the rhetoric around Andrade is that he has "leveled up" with the new style he's been using to great effect, but some of that seems to implicitly disparage his older works. In my opinion, he's always been and will continue to be an amazing artist, and couldn't be happier to have a page featuring his signature abstract figures during his "ink wash" period.
