Description"The new fordhammer black"I believe this ad page is from Powers issue 13. Little Deaths covered Powers issues 12-14, and I remember this page being near the beginning of the arc but I haven't gone back and checked. I asked Oeming but he wasn't sure either. Social/Sharing |

Love it! The inks are just the boldest ever. Congrats on your Oeming piece!

Looks like a Ford Taurus mid sized sedan to me. An in universe ad in the world of Powers tells us more about their world and how superheroes are commonly used like celebrities.

GREAT spread, Doug. You're right - this came from the 'Little Deaths' arc, specifically in 'Powers' (vol. 1 / 2000) #13, pps. 7-8.
(It's noted as pps. 6-7 on the OA itself, but this issue starts with a DPS (of Zora hawking the perfume 'Control' - "The new fragrance from Jagi Jangunu"), an "in-universe" ad (for a movie of Oeming's own "Hammer Of The Gods"), a mock table of contents, and then two more DPSes (of which this is the last). Counting that first DPS as pages 1-2, these would be pages 7-8.)
I just love this so much... There was such an unbridled joy and sense of anarchic enthusiasm in these early issues, as Bendis and Oeming started to find their stride and really throw themselves into this world. As Marcus sagely (as usual) pointed out, this commonplace, 'business as usual' usage of a hero to sell major motor vehicles (which was actually fiction about two decades ago) was the perfect way to show the Powers' integration into (and "usage" by) mainstream society in the Powers universe (especially in the context of this specific issue, where, it sounds like you remember, the presentation/motif of the book was in the style of a tabloid, ads and all). Outstanding DPS, Doug - fantastic piece of Powers history! Mega-congrats!
