Description
I've been a Batman fan my whole life, and "The Batman" is the most faithful adaptation of the character to date. To that end, I decided to take a crack at the Dark Knight again and this time take homage from "Batman: Year One." David Mazzucchelli had this interior first page of Batman in an alley with part of his body shrouded in shadow as a flashlight shone on the back wall followed by a gunshot. I decided to take that composition and make it my own. Etched on 11 x 14" 98 lb. Canson with LePens Drawing graphic pens and India Ink, we see the Robert Pattison version of Batman in a similar composition with liberties. I've increased the gunfire and included paraphernalia associated with the film's plot. The detail on the armor I owe to my recent purchase of "The Art of The Batman", a hardcover behind-the-scenes introspective that includes production art, costume designs, in-depth cast and crew interviews, and so forth. I did my best to emphasize the noir-esque atmosphere of Mazzucchelli's "Year One" with the intense shadows and small hint of the use of negative space. The rain effect was achieved with the use of GellyRoll 10 liquid white gel pen and some white out on multiple surfaces. I decided to let the art breathe and decrease the amount of visible drops via Gellyroll and LePens 005 streaks; not every rain drop is seen anyway in reality. Overall this is my most daunting Batman project and I'm extremely proud of the result. Expect a colored version to be posted soon which will included the above information with additional descriptions.
