This is a very rare piece. It is the first time I have seen original art by Japanese superstar mangaka Junji Ito outside of the artist's holdings. I have seen an exhibition of his pages in Italy and have seen a few dedications he has done but never a finished piece in the wild. It is my understanding that this art was used as part of the title page for the fourth chapter of Tomie, one of his many horror masterpieces. It is not in the published English edition but was published in Halloween Magazine 10/89 in Japan. On the back are some notes and a gorgeous signature by Ito-san.

The top portion is a seasonal greeting to a friend with an apology for using used paper to write a note. This is done in a tongue in cheek way as it was an excuse to get some art to a friend. The lower portion states that this is art for Tomie and his signature.

I love the photo film design of this piece and the fact that the white eyed girl looks like a typical killer child from a horror movie. The signature on back is beautiful, so that's a really nice bonus and all the rest of that Japanese writing is great too. Timothy Finney, please tell us what it says. Arigatou gozaimasu!

Absolutely incredible! "Grail" gets tossed around a lot but a piece from Ito is unobtanium and any would be a true grail to a fan of his work. I adore everything he does and this is just outstanding. Congrats!
